How Do I Register to Vote?

QUALIFICATIONS

Every person who is 18 years of age or older on the date of the next election and who has the following qualifications is entitled to register to vote:

  • A citizen of the United States; and
  • A resident of the State of Colorado and the precinct in which the person intends to register at least 30 days prior to the election.

 

No person while serving a sentence of detention or confinement in a correctional facility, jail, or other location for a felony conviction or while serving a sentence of parole shall be eligible to register to vote or to vote in any election.


 

HOW TO REGISTER BY MAIL

If you are registering to vote for the first time in the State of Colorado and you are mailing your completed Voter Registration Application form, a photocopy of an Acceptable Form of Identification must be enclosed with your completed application. Do not enclose original identification documents.

Instructions:

  • Print and complete the Voter Registration Application form.
  • Complete the form. Be sure to include all Required information
  • Sign the application form
  • Make a photocopy of your identification
  • Mail your completed Voter Registration Application and photocopy of your identification to:

HOW TO REGISTER "IN-PERSON"

You may register to vote at any office of the County Clerk and Recorder, at any City Clerk's office, Town Clerk's office, High School or at any Colorado Driver's License office. If you have moved, you may update your voter registration record at any of these locations or by mail.

Instructions:

  • Appear "in-person" at any designated Voter Registration Agency and complete a Voter Registration Application form. Be sure to include all Required information.
  • Sign the application.
  • Give your completed Voter Registration Application to the designated agency representative

Whether you register by mail or "in-person," a Voter Confirmation Card will be mailed to you approximately 2-3 weeks after your Voter Registration Application Form is processed.

 

IDENTIFICATION EXCEPTIONS

To be exempt from the identification requirements you must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Be 65 years of age or older when you registered
  • Have a physical disability
  • Be a member, spouse or dependent of an active uniform service or merchant marine absent from the county on Election Day
  • Living outside the United States but eligible to vote in Colorado

 

REGISTRATION DEADLINE

In order to be eligible to vote in an upcoming election, you must mail or deliver your completed Voter Registration Application form to the County Clerk and Recorder's Office no later than 29 days before the election Registration Deadline. Your eligibility to vote is based on the postmark date, if you mail the form. If you complete and deliver this form "in-person" your eligibility to vote will be based on the date the form is submitted.
