The Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is seeking public comment on a proposal for 25 Voter Service and Polling Centers for the Nov. 8 General Election. The plan and list of proposed locations is available for review at www.arapahoevotes.com/VSPCplan.
Under Colorado’s election model, all active registered voters receive a mail ballot in general elections, and citizens also can receive services and cast a ballot at Voter Service and Polling Centers.
“Arapahoe County’s active, registered voters can expect to receive their mail-ballot in mid-October for the 2016 General Election,” said Clerk and Recorder Matt Crane. “We also will offer 25 locations where citizens can register to vote in-person, update their voter record or party affiliation, request or replace a ballot, or vote on an accessible voting tablet through Election Day. We welcome citizen input on the selection of these sites.”
Arapahoe County’s plan for 25 Voter Service and Polling Centers will surpass state law, which requires at least 23 locations based on the number of active, registered voters in the county. Eleven locations will be open Oct. 24 – Nov. 8 as required for early voting, and an additional 14 locations will open Nov. 5, 7 and 8. Although these additional locations are only required on Election Day, the extended dates will provide greater access for Arapahoe County citizens.
Citizens may visit any Voter Service and Polling Center in the county. There are no assigned polling places. The Voter Service and Polling Centers will be located in larger public settings, such as libraries, churches and government buildings. Each will feature accessible laptops with a real-time connection to the statewide electronic voter registration system to check voters in and ensure that no person can vote twice. Each site also will feature touch-screen voting tablets with advanced accessibility features for voters with disabilities, as well as printers to produce paper ballots upon request for any specific precinct.
